For more than 20 years, our Turtle Bread has been a staple at Honu Bakery — a comforting favorite for generations of families who walk through our doors. It’s soft, it’s familiar, and it carries the heart of our bakery’s story.


As we’ve grown, so has our community. And with that growth comes the need to evolve in ways that honor our past while preparing for the next chapter. Today, we’re excited to share one of the biggest updates to our signature item since we first opened our doors.

Why We’re Renaming Turtle Bread to Honu Bread


If you’ve been with us from the beginning, you may have already noticed something: Many of our long-time customers, friends, and family have been calling it the Honu Bread for years.


The name fits us perfectly — and it reflects our identity more clearly than ever. But for newer customers, “Turtle Bread” often caused confusion, especially when browsing our menu or learning about our brand for the first time.


By officially renaming it Honu Bread, we’re bringing everything into alignment:

  • Our brand

  • Our story

  • Our most iconic product


The recipe? Still the same. Still made by hand, in-house, every single day.

A Perfect New Size Inspired by You

For years, our Honu Bread has come in two versions:

  • Large (13 pieces)

  • Mini (7 pieces)


And through months of customer surveys, feedback cards, and conversations at the counter, we learned something funny and consistent:

  • The Large was too big (and sometimes too expensive).

  • The Mini was too small for most appetites.


It was time for a change — a thoughtful one.


So starting 11/24/25, just in time for Thanksgiving week, we’re consolidating both products into a single, perfect size: 10 pieces.


This new version strikes the balance so many have been asking for. Not too big. Not too small. Just right.

More Affordable Pricing

A single standard size lets us simplify production and offer a friendlier price point.


Less Waste, Better Portions

Large loaves often led to leftovers, while the mini loaves disappeared too fast. The new size solves both issues.


Supports Our Wholesale Expansion

As many of you know, we’ve recently begun wholesaling our desserts across the island. Our dream? To one day see Honu Bread available beyond our own stores — in local convenience shops, cafes, and hotel markets. This new size is the key that unlocks that possibility.
